When my father was suffering dementia, he loved to talk law with my sister. Both are attorneys. It was what he was most comfortable and familiar with, so it was sort of his default cognitive mode. He didn't necessarily recognize the person he was talking to was his daughter, but his legal arguments were sound.

I think the Old Man is a developer at heart and that is his default cognitive setting. He is comfortable looking at a property and seeing what he wants to do to it to make it "better" - whether it is an airport, an executive mansion, or a beleaguered city under siege. It's all real estate to him.

I kinda wish we could lean into it and just give him some non-essential properties to "manage" and have him ignore the rest of the world.
