It’s ironic how ready these right wingers are to toss people permanently on the trash heap of history, regardless of what they’ve been through or how far they’ve come.

Arrogance breaks laws and hearts —crimes against others — but it also disconnects us from the deep waters of our own humanity, a crime against oneself. To see one’s flaws is humbling. To see someone who was so lost rediscover the path — to decency, to joy, to their own humanity — is a cause for rejoicing.
