(1,791 posts)I'm looking to move out and need a reference and don't see much to gain in going off to the manager about it. The fucking President has ordered flags to be at half staff for a hate-monger/provocateur whose schtick was to debate 19 year olds rather than knowledgeable adults who would demolish him. Eight months ago, the same President ordered flags not to be at half staff for Jimmy Carter.
Before Kirk, troops were already being deployed in DC with talk of Chicago and others on the horizon, but now Charlie Kirk somehow amps up their sense of justification for it. The media is wholly complicit in not calling out Kirk's actual record, but the corporations that own them have been systematically manipulated, intimidated and assaulted, along with the country's most powerful law firms and universities. And, the tripled ICE budget hasn't even kicked in yet.
Trump isn't capable of masterminding this. This was pre-designed by the Project 2025 plutocrats and Trump and his cabinet of eager sycophants seem to have no boundary beyond which they're not willing to take it. Looking at the facial experssions of Kash Patel and the people on the dais with him during a press conference is full on dystopian.
The scariest part to me is how they're redistricting states by openly declaring that they need to rig the deck because otherwise they might lose. They're not even trying to create another rationale. They're claiming that the other side is so evil that they need to undo democracy to prevent them from taking power. And, the media, not just right wing outlets, but all media is presenting it as something that's just another story and is potentially reasonable and that maybe Gavin Newsom in responding to it is the one that's unreasonable.
I will fight it with everything I have, though even I feel impotent in confronting the management of my apartment building about the fucking flag.
