Quite the contrary, I think we were silent many times because we did not want to lose friends or cause dissension in our families. That is a sign of character.
But, in hindsight, I think the best way to compete with free speech is more free speech. We did not speak up often enough or loud enough in many instances, in my opinion.
Also, Trump and MAGA want to use the murder of Kirk to further their authoritarian goals.
We have no choice but to speak up. No matter whose feelings are hurt.

Just my opinion. I don't think it will matter either way - silence or speaking out.
