would have been likely to have prevented this particular shooting,
which was accomplished with an older bolt-action rifle, rather than a semi-automatic of any type...

ironically a much more suitable weapon for a long-range targeted killing,
than any semi-automatic weapon such as the AR-15 knockoffs-- which are more suitable for just spraying bullets
faster with less power and accuracy than an old-fashioned bolt-action rifle, i.e. more suitable for a MASS shooting
with no particular individual target...

So unless Democrats wanted to propose a complete confiscation program of all rifles,
which they don't and I certainly don't, none of our gun-control proposals
are likely to have prevented this particular murder---

and Kirk's opposition to gun control likely had no effect upon his own murder---
BUT it has likely helped to stop the prevention of MASS murders committed
by owners of semi-automatic assault weapons which Democrats had previously banned
during the Clinton administration, but that ban expired.
