8. Enlisted and officer wife duties are challenging in different ways.

Yes if an officer wants to make high rank he needs a spouse who will perform publicly
in appropriate ways to enhance spouse's career potential. She also needs to be able to manage
the children and house on her own due to long absences of spouse. She must be flexible
and cope well in all kinds of unknown new environments when posted overseas or odd spots in the US.
She cannot complain too much or rock the boat.

Enlisted wives often must make do on limited budgets and being on the bottom of
the power totem pole.
