Donald Trump traveled to West Point to speak to this year's U.S. Military Academy graduates, but he made a bizarre tangent when he tried to give life advice
In the midst of his nearly hour-long speech to the graduates, Trump diverged into a lengthy and meandering commentary about "trophy wives," which elicited little reaction from the audience.
While wearing a very controversial and 'disrespectful' cap, he offered some advice to the graduating class, recounting an encounter with groundbreaking real estate developer William Levitt at a gathering in New York. "He sold this company and he had nothing to do," he told the future military leaders. There were also concerns over the 'weary' president slurring his words.
Trump continued: "He ended up getting a divorce, found a new wife. Could you say a trophy wife? I guess we can say a trophy wife. It didn't work out too well, but it doesn't and that doesn't work out too well, I must tell you. A lot of trophy wives doesn't work out. But it made them happy for a little while at least."
He concluded: "But he found a new wife, he sold his little boat and he got a big yacht; he had one of the biggest yachts anywhere in the world. He moved for a time to Monte Carlo, and he led the good life. and time went by and he got bored and 15 years later, the company that he sold to called him and they said, 'The housing business is not for us.'" Later, the Republican leader finally explained that the point of the story was to love what you do.

An officer looking for a flag or an Eagle or Star needs a spouse as dedicated to the service as they are.
You can always tell when an officer picked a trophy spouse... they're typically divorced or on the way to it. And IME, it always affects their ability to command...

(70,197 posts)Yes if an officer wants to make high rank he needs a spouse who will perform publicly
in appropriate ways to enhance spouse's career potential. She also needs to be able to manage
the children and house on her own due to long absences of spouse. She must be flexible
and cope well in all kinds of unknown new environments when posted overseas or odd spots in the US.
She cannot complain too much or rock the boat.
Enlisted wives often must make do on limited budgets and being on the bottom of
the power totem pole.

(2,547 posts)The normalization of Trump's weird behavior is getting really old. Also, the headline is dishonest clickbait. There is nothing in the article about grads being stunned. That would be the story. Instead we get Trump's nonsense unfiltered.
Are headlines like that designed to trick Democrats into giving Trump more coverage? That certainly is the effect if not the intention.
