That no one has asked. The running assumptions that there is something wrong with us is so ingrained, we actually need therapy on multiple fronts. Our own self condemnation, mixed with the "If only he had, or he should have, etc..." messaging from others, creates an environment that makes it almost impossible to rise up out of our life long, self imposed "jail sentence".
