Is it me, or is this scary? [View all]

Just for quick background...a couple of years ago, my sister and I decided to pool our resources and buy a house together, since we are both at the age where "I've fallen and I can't get up" is no longer just a commercial tag line.

So yesterday we were doing our usual end of the day kick back and exchange war stories when she told me she had just been on her afternoon phone call with her daughter, discussing the usual stuff...grandkids, work, what's she's making for dinner. Suddenly a male voice came on and said, "This conversation is now being recorded". Full stop. They both heard it.

My sister of course just told her daughter to hang up, she'd call her back. She waited about 10 minutes and there was nothing else, but DAMN!!! What do you guys think? Anybody had this happen to them? We have some very tech savvy folks here. Is there even the remotest possibility of today's equivalent of "crossed wires". Or is it 1984?

BTW, my sister doesn't get involved in politics, but my niece is a public school teacher.
