Is it me, or is this scary?

Just for quick background...a couple of years ago, my sister and I decided to pool our resources and buy a house together, since we are both at the age where "I've fallen and I can't get up" is no longer just a commercial tag line.

So yesterday we were doing our usual end of the day kick back and exchange war stories when she told me she had just been on her afternoon phone call with her daughter, discussing the usual stuff...grandkids, work, what's she's making for dinner. Suddenly a male voice came on and said, "This conversation is now being recorded". Full stop. They both heard it.

My sister of course just told her daughter to hang up, she'd call her back. She waited about 10 minutes and there was nothing else, but DAMN!!! What do you guys think? Anybody had this happen to them? We have some very tech savvy folks here. Is there even the remotest possibility of today's equivalent of "crossed wires". Or is it 1984?

BTW, my sister doesn't get involved in politics, but my niece is a public school teacher.

4. That was going to be my guess. Either party might have accidentally hit the record button. Here are the instructions.

It looks easy to mistakenly activate on an iPhone:

To record a phone call on an iPhone with iOS 18.1 or later, simply tap the call recording icon (which looks like a sound bar) in the top left corner of the call screen during the call. Both parties will hear an announcement that the call is being recorded. The recording and transcript will be saved in the Notes ap

I THINK it's new feature of an IOS update?? I've had the same phone and carrier for years and this has never happened until a couple of weeks ago. I don't know what triggered it...but I'm glad to know IF you are recorded...you will know.

7. When I copied above how to record a call, I should have included the sentence before that which says it is on IOS 18.1

I'm very relieved. My sister does use the voice app a lot, and I had no idea about the recording app. She probably inadvertently hit something.
