(1,225 posts)...and they saw the danger in promoting white supremacy as a political ideology. That thought it was political death. There were plenty of Republicans who did the "wink and nod" stuff, but the standing with the Klan guy was a step too far.
Until the black guy got elected president.
I'm never amazed anymore at the contortions some will twist into to disbelieve bigotry and racism are the driving factors among the majority of Trump's voters. Most of these people are very satisfied their president is a cross between Archie Bunker and John Gotti. They'll put up with the corruption as long as he's attacking immigrants of color and black Americans, and the pokes at the latter are being ratcheted up more and more. Unfortunately for Trump, Steven Miller, and the rest of the white supremacist, White Nationalist, fascist cabal, black folks recognize their very weak-assed game and aren't playing.
These people love Trump for the same reason they love right-wing tools like Charlie Kirk, Ben Shapiro, and others who idiots accept for some reason as being smart people: they scratch their itch for bigotry. It's not about being liberal; it's about not being white.
