In reply to the discussion: Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy says 'no doubt' Biden suffered cognitive decline while in office [View all]Ms. Toad
(37,467 posts)65. Very ill-advised statement
Theres no doubt about it, said the Connecticut senator when asked by POLITICO if Biden experienced cognitive decline as president. The debate is whether it was enough that it compromised his ability to act as chief executive.
It feeds into Trump's vague threats to prosecute Trump.
The time for questioning whether Biden should have dropped out earlier is long past. I have always believed he should not have run for a second term, but in my opinion the time for questioning that was before the primaries started, not after they were over.
This response goes well beyond questioning whether he should have dropped out (and, if so, and when), to questioning whether he was competent to govern during the remainder of his term. There is zero benefit to Democrats to navel gazing on that front. Whether he was, or not, has no bearing on where we go from here. All that suggesting he might not have been competent during his presidency does is to encourage Republicans who need no encouragement to go after him.
I do think we need to learn from the past so we don't repeat it - but Harris is the one who lost. It is her candidacy (and failure to distinguish herself form Biden on the Middle East and the economy) that we need to examine. Examining Biden's competence to govern, or even if/when to drop out, does not make it any more likely that we will win in the future.

OP
It drives me nuts. All the GOP has to do is play videos of Democrats telling everyone how awful

He's my senator and I like him a lot. We don't like what he has to say but he is not our enemy.

He's no longer a Dem contender for '28. He needs to learn to keep his mouth. shut...

There was no vote on sending weapons to Israel. Your senators voted "yes" on a motion to discharge.

Your post is a reasonable response to this issue. But politics, unfortunately, don't seem to be "reasonable."

Politicians are trying to immunize themselves from what was a genuine scandal

Is Murphy or any other politician (or aide) who are shitting on our last President a neurologist or a gerontologist?

While I tend to agree that Biden should have made his decision not to run before the 2022 midterms,

"cognitive decline" is a very broad phrase that Democrats should steer clear of.

It would be so much better if people actually listened to Murphy's whole interview rather than knee jerking

It seems that any Democrat who dares to question President Biden's fitness gets automatically
