In reply to the discussion: Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy says 'no doubt' Biden suffered cognitive decline while in office [View all]Sympthsical
(10,729 posts)Why would a Democratic politician bring that down on themselves during an election year?
The question isn't "Why didn't they say anything?" The real question is why we were so very willing to do the savaging. Particularly when actual polls of Democratic voters were begging the party not to take the course it did.
As far as Monday morning quarterbacking, doesn't that serve a useful function? To look at the game footage, see the mistakes made, and discuss ways to not make those same mistakes in the next game? If anything I think we, as a party, have a deficit at asking these questions. Hell, we can barely acknowledge mistakes after major losses. You see, the problems weren't that maybe Biden shouldn't have run. Harris' campaign was "flawless" according to her campaign staff. Everything was done as perfectly as it could be.
Once people have convinced themselves that everything was done perfectly, I think others have an absolute duty to Monday morning quarterback. We need people to say, "No no. It's over. These bad narratives need to be shattered now. As vigorously as possible."
When the narrative is "It's everyone else's fault except the people in charge!" that is a topsy turvy position to take. Yet it's the main narrative here. It's got some real CEO golden parachute energy to it. All the little people just don't understand the greatness.
It's a little unDemocratic for my taste.
