That said, it's happened before with other democrats and republicans. Feinstein anyone? She was objectively unfit to serve. Look at McConell, who basically mini-stroked on camera; twice. And look at how Ginsburg stayed in the game too long after a frank conversation with Obama. The terrible thing is - whether people here like to admit it or not - is that when you're mentally compromised, you lose perspective on your own limits of service. Frankly, there needs to be a non-partisan medical officer or a medical officer board. Really non-partisan - set in stone high qualifications - not like the surgeon general. Does not "answer" to the president. An office that can make unbiased transparent-to-the-public recommendations on whether politicians are fit to serve. One's fitness to serve should transcend political considerations. If there were such an office and it had teeth, it would incentivize the party to run younger candidates.
