This is exactly what many economists and progressives warned about when Trump launched his reckless trade war — working families are paying the price, not the foreign governments he claimed to be punishing. Tariffs are essentially taxes on consumers, and now we’re seeing that cost trickle down in a very real way. Walmart raising prices isn’t just a corporate decision; it’s a symptom of failed economic policy.

What’s worse is the gaslighting. Trump says these tariffs will make Americans richer, yet even his supporters at major corporations are saying otherwise. Walmart isn’t some fringe leftist group — it’s one of the biggest beneficiaries of conservative economic policies, and even they can’t sugarcoat the damage.

This isn't about America "winning" — it's about a president using economic nationalism as a campaign talking point, with no coherent strategy and no concern for the average person. Lowering the tariff from 145% to 30% isn’t some generous favor; it’s still a massive, unnecessary tax burden on American consumers. If we want an economy that actually supports people instead of political egos, we need to return to evidence-based trade policy and international cooperation — not isolationist bluster.
