SIOUX CITY The opening stretch of a town hall meeting held by three Iowa Democratic legislators Saturday afternoon in Sioux City was relatively subdued but it didn't say that way forever.
During a discussion about trans issues, a speaker at the Morningside library event suggested to Iowa State Sens. Matt Blake, Herman Quirmbach and Janice Weiner that their party should reconsider how to discuss and prioritize the matter. The proposition provoked a lengthy and heated back-and-forth.
"We're not going to give up the fight. And you're right, it's wedge issue for them, they've been beating up on us, and they're going to continue to beat up on us. Well god dammit, if you don't stand for something then what the hell are you doing running for office?? Quirmbach, who represents Ames, asked those in attendance.
