3. It takes a special type of mind to be a good Air Traffic Controller

I used to play a game called "Star Fleet Battles." I was feared enough to where other players would get together and gang up in hopes they could beat me. I was pretty much feared by a large group of local gamers. I knew the rules inside and out and I was able to manage multiple ships efficiently.

Then I got to play with a few Air Traffic Controllers from a military base. They walked all over me. They enjoyed playing with me, I don't think they typically got as much of a challenge as I provided, but I was seriously not in their league. A good Air Traffic Controller is capable of maintaining complex combinations of data in their head while new data keeps piling in. They can visualize and keep track of information coming in real time.

They deserve the pay, they need and deserve the time out, and if they feel like they need to retire early, they should have the benefits to do so. I can assure you they are smarter that the people who manage them.
