When I was in high school, so my Dad and I went to visit her for Spring vacation. It sure is different from New York, beautiful country, and I can't help wishing I was there when we get hit with the inevitable snowstorms! 
And I certainly understand why the Canadians are avoiding us. We got a hint when TFG first took office and his first foreign trip was to Saudi Arabia! It's traditional for a new president to make his first "foreign" trip to Canada, our closest neighbor and ally. 
My cousin and his wife visited Canada a few months ago and I was worried, and they said though there were a lot of Canada First signs, everyone was friendly. I'm not sure if that's the case now. And we've heard that those Canadians who winter in the U.S. are selling their properties and going elsewhere. *sigh*
And I live close enough to Canada that they started teaching us French in 7th grade. My Dad loved going to Ottawa, he was a world traveler, but this was one "foreign" country he could drive to. I went to summer camp in nearby Vermont and we had a lot of Canadian fellow campers, but I'm guessing that's ended, too. I'm still friendly with a former counselor and his wife who live in Quebec and come to reunions which we had before Covid. I'm especially friendly with his wife and during one visit she gave me quite a lecture on the dangers of TFG... They knew, even back then.
