WATCH: Gabbard says Signal group chat on Yemen strikes had 'discussion around targets in general' - PBS NewsHour [View all]
Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., asked national security officials on Tuesday whether a Signal group chat about U.S. military attack plans that inadvertently included a journalist included discussion of targets in Yemen.
I believe there was discussion around targets in general, U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard said during a hearing before the Senate Intelligence Committee.
When asked the same question, CIA Director John Ratcliffe said that was consistent with my recollection.
The hearing, which came a day after the existence of the group chat was reported in The Atlantic, focused on worldwide threats. Testifying alongside Gabbard and Ratcliffe were FBI Director Kash Patel, NSA Director Timothy Haugh and Defense Intelligence Agency Director Jeffrey Kruse.
In the time since the group chat was reported, national security experts and lawmakers have expressed concern about the major lapse in security.
When asked by reporters about the communications around the plans late Monday, Hegseth said nobody was texting war plans. - Aired on 03/25/2025.
