2. I was in the grocery store once when the cops led this poor homeless guy out.

He had been caught shoplifting a bottle of CHEAP wine (not good expensive stuff).
.
He and his clothes were filthy. His hair and beard were wild and unkempt. You could
tell he had some serious emotional/cognitive problems.

I'm torn. Getting arrested probably got him a bed and safe place to live/sleep for a
few days. But I also feel guilty because I didn't act on my impulse to ask the police
if they'd let him (and his wine) go if I paid for it.

It really does bother me -- but has positively affected the way I react to some people
and situations now.
