Kind of off topic but I just finished rereading "The Story of O" which is one of the saddest books I know. O is looking for power, not submission, and something beyond orgasm--- and she only finds that power with other women, never men.

The last lines say she wants to die because her "Master" is tired of her-- he gives her permission to do so.

Seen as a living sexual allegory, the myth of the oversexed, always ready male and women reduced to nothing but physical meat for male pleasure, the story escapes the bounds of "erotica" and tells a gendered truth.
