In the US, we are fundamentally built on immigration whereas Japan, an island nation, has always been lukewarm on their best days as far as immigration goes. The country has been getting less friendly with the weak yen lately causing so many badly behaving foreign tourists to come. Their biggest complaints are against the visiting Chinese that flagrantly break a lot of their etiquette norms. The US tourists can be pretty bad too with the most egregious examples being harassment and total invasions of personal space to get a selfie with a Geisha walking in Kyoutou. They are also having issues with Kurds overstaying their visas and living illegally and then making demands that align with their culture rather than adapting - bearing in mind that Japan is not an American style melting pot. Things like that. They do need some immigration though…an aging population that is not having a lot of kids says so.

My wife is from Japan and absolutely hates and despises trump and will celebrate the days he’s six feet under. She’s ok with the new PM.
