6. 6th grade science/math teacher was into recycling and "the Earth."

Insisted on going outside for 'field work' in a nearby patch of woods for Earth Day (as in, uh, the first Earth Day).

She also gave us extra credit if anybody could bring in a bag of hair. Raid your local barber's, pile it up from when mom cuts the kids' hair, whatever. She'd compost it and said it was really high in all kinds of things that plants liked, didn't fully break down in the compost but would continue for years.

Not too shoddy.
