An infectious disease dr last week about this. I have a permanent in dwelling ureteral stint that gets replaced every 6 months or so. I had to have it “installed” almost 3 years ago due to ureter damage from radiation treatments. I will do that for the rest of my life.

In the last 8 months I’ve had a P. Aeruginosa infection 4 times. My uro said he could keep me on a daily low dose antibiotic, but Cipro is what I take with that infection, and that’s one nasty strong antibiotic. The infectious disease Dr said the bug has probably colonized and built up a film on either the stent or a kidney stone I still have. So far, so good after this last stent exchange, but she prescribed Methenamine saying it would essentially make my urinary tract environment antiseptic and less hospitable to infections. My only concern is what makes that med work is that it turns to a formaldehyde solution in your bladder.

Again, thanks for posting. My other concern is that insurance may decide at some point that I’m too old and will stop covering the stent replacements at $5k a pop.
