Experts warn of tick dangers as weather warms [View all]

CADILLAC — Northern Michigan offers plenty of activities for outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy alongside their pets.

But as the weather warms up, hiking and hunting in the woods can bring the hidden danger of ticks. Although small, the arachnid’s bite has been linked to health concerns such as Lyme disease.

Pat Smith, president of Lyme Disease Association Inc., said anyone heading outdoors should be cautious about coming into contact with ticks and potential tick-borne illnesses this season.

“Any tick can be carrying a variety of tick-borne infections,” Smith said.
