1. High time those were redesigned

I always used them but I never tightened the straps down. That allowed me to stop quickly if I had to and avoid patches of cactus or broken glass or whatever, while still allowing me to pull up as well as push down while pedaling.

The things I never bothered with were the special shoes that you had to take off if you needed to walk.
