12. If you're using Word, always use hard page breaks for chapters.

Then, when you're all done and proofread let Word create a table of contents for you. Use a Word heading style for chapter titles, and word will get it right. Be sure to embed your font in your documents and everything will be fine.

If you edit, redo the table of contents after editing.

I don't use the Kindle templates. I create my own, with customized gutter margins and page numbering.
