10. Several years ago someone handed me a book in the middle of the series,

and I took it, figuring it would be a light read, just escapist fiction, and had no high expectations. To my delighted surprise, it was a wonderful book. I no longer recall which was the first one I read, but I'll tell you that I went straight to the library and started reading the series from the beginning, and now eagerly await each year's new offering.

Among the things I like about the series is the internal logic that never fails. It's also interesting that some are narrated first person, some are third person. In addition, they are not a straightforward chronological narrative, but sometimes a new one in the series will reach back to earlier events in Jack Reacher's life.

Fabulous series.
