If you can find it, read "Naked Came The Manatee" It was written by writers from South Florida - such as Dave Barry, Carl Hiaasen, Edna Buchanan.
Dave Barry has the first chapter, in which we meet the manatee, who is named Booger. Of course he is after all it is Dave Barry
