I recall reading, "The Gun Without a Bang," by Robert Sheckley back in Middle School English class, and it was panned by the entire class, but that's because we didn't get satire. I've remembered it though, and I've come to appreciate it and would like to read it again, but it's difficult to find.

My favorite collection of short stories is, "Woman Hollering Creek," by Sandra Cisneros, a collection of stories about Mexican and Mexican-American women and what they face in their daily lives.
