I remember having to learn what her ring sounded like and still being afraid to answer the phone at her house in case the call was for someone else on the same line. And how you had to pick up the receiver to see if anyone was on the line to wait for them to get off before you could make a call. And worrying that someone might pick up the phone and listen in on you. What madness!
