2. Six years is not very old for a cat.

Perhaps about the same as a 40 year old human.

My cats have mostly lived to about age 15, often two or three years more.

I currently have two cats, Tatiana who is about 6 or 7, and Tony who I think is about 3. I acquired them both in circumstances that didn't give me exact ages.

I adopted Tatiana in July, 2020, from the local animal shelter. She was a stray, and they guessed she was about 4. I think she may have been a year or two younger, but she spends a lot more time sleeping now than she did when she first lived here.

Tony was a neighborhood cat, who I let spend a lot of time with me a year ago, and even let his real humans know that it was happening. In the middle of December there was a knock on my door. His humans were holding Tony and said, "We are moving and we can't have a cat in our new place. Would you be willing to take him?" Oh, dear lord yes. I only regret that I didn't think to ask just how old he is, and if he had a regular vet.

The very best part is that Tatiana and Tony get on extremely well. In fact, Tatiana has blossomed from being a very solitary, not wanting to be touched, just leave me alone kind of cat to one who wants to be petted and is the verge of sitting on my lap. Yes!
