Wonder why we are experiencing what seems to be days on end of unsettled weather? You have the Omega Block to thank! As the graphic shows, an Omega Block happens when 2 upper level troughs are present, usually over the east and west coasts, with a stagnant high pressure ridge building over the middle of the country. These lows remain nearly stationary, bringing with it a recurring chance for rain over the coasts, while the middle of the country enjoys nice, warm weather. So, this prolonged period of unsettled weather will continue until the ridge breaks down, allowing westerly flow to resume once again.
