3. It falls to weed killers of all sorts.

For large stems (I get poison oak. Some vines 10 feet tall or more.), the weed killer works, too, but I'll also clip them at the base with a pole pruner (specifically the Fiskars one with the pull handle). And it's also good for transporting stuff that needs to be transported at a distance of some 4 feet or so from you.

Of course, easiest in the spring when the leaves are bright red.
