10. I worked at a restaurant in the late 60s

as a salad girl (yes, my title!) We made homemade dressings for the salad bar. I remember making french dressing with a large can of tomato soup, mayo, and other items, Caesar dressing, Italian dressing, maybe 1000 Island. When I saw that Time article, I wondered from then on why I never saw russian dressing.

At home, we made our own cocktail sauce (ketchup, mustard, horseradish, a dash of hot sauce, maybe Worchestershire). And tartar sauce (mayo, horseradish mustard, dill pickle, fresh onion) They also made their own BBQ sauce. My parents made a tossed salad with a mayo dressing. I bet if they'd called it Ranch, they'd be the rich ones

It's odd that my years have spanned when almost everything was still homemade, but the processed fooods were getting popular to now, when you can get everything ready made.
