(Hoffmann). His maternal line looks to be English and Pottawatomie. My alleged Pottawatomie was born in 1765 so I have almost no information on her, except something that my father's maternal grandfather wrote out that states she was Pottawatomie and was the daughter of a war chief. But her name was Hester Smith... so I'm not really sure any of that is true. I do believe that my father's maternal line has Native American blood somewhere, though. High cheek bones, black silky hair and dark brown eyes. My most famous ancestor (Thaddeus Waters) was listed in his civil war records as 5'9, with black hair, black eyes and olive skin. If Hester Smith was really a Pottawatomie - this would have been his paternal grandmother.

Sometimes I feel like I know these people from all the research into their lives. Good luck with your search!!!
