Chronic Health Conditions Discussion and Support
Showing Original Post only (View all)Chronic UTIs in elderly women [View all]
I keep getting UTIs and I don't know why. I am 85 years old and in excellent health but these infections are driving me crazy. This last bout was treated with Nitrofurantoin Machrochrista. My primary care doc has been handling them but I may get turned over to a Urologist for further treatment.
Is there a sub-category of Urology that handles this problem specifically? Or does it have to be a GYN, which I haven't had since I was much younger? I can't be the only elderly woman who has this problem!

I don't know. I will call my primary care docs office. They keep all my test records when I go to specialists for care

And then put the lid to the toilet down before flushing. That microscopic spray of bacteria goes everywhere.

I'm so old that I actually had my first UTI before penicillin was widely available,

I carry a large bottle of water around with me, even when I go room to room in my house and when I go out shopping.

Thanks. Maybe I can obtain the hormone cream if it doesn't require a prescription.

There is a sub specialty called Uro- gynecology. There is a group practice near me.

I know it's very common in older women and it's harder to tell if you have one, too.
