(113,491 posts)My ex was the drinker, and he'd try to hide them from himself, lying to himself about how much he was drinking, really pathetic. When I'd find one, usually poking out of the strapping between floor joists, I'd just take it upstairs and put it with the rest, out in the open. I was not a good enabler, I really sucked at that job, never poured it out or salted it or marked the bottles, it was his problem, not mine.
I'm glad to report he got sober a couple of years after I left and none of his problems went with me. He wasn't a bad guy, just a drunk.
It's good that it's getting easier. It's better that you didn't give in to loneliness and boredom for a few minutes of "whee!" followed by hours of sodden incoherence. Give yourself a well deserved pat on the back, you passed another test.
