1. Extreme heat can bend rails out of alignment

As exasperating as I find current Amtrak attitudes towards train cancellations, I do approve of their caution regarding the current heat wave. Extreme heat can and does bent tracks out of alignment, and on the Northeast Corridor, where trains can run 85 mph and higher, these precautions sound sensible.
