3. They are still adding new coal plants

The U.S. is retiring coal-fired power plants and not building new ones, although some of that retired capacity is being replaced by natural gas-fired generation. However, capacity additions from solar and wind are currently 4 times greater than the amount of natural gas generation being added every year.
