Parents, legislators call for right to choose virtual learning for students [View all]

JEFFERSON CITY(MO) — For the second day in a row, parents and students convened at the State Capitol to champion for the right to choose their child's education, particularly for virtual school.

Under current law, students need final approval from their local school district to opt for online education. Two Republican-backed bills, House Bill 1903 and Senate Bill 648 both look to overturn that rule and give parents, rather than school districts, the final say in their children's education.

Senate Majority Floor Leader Caleb Rowden is sponsoring SB648, and he told KRCG 13 this version of online learning is entirely different from the virtual education schools turn to in the face of the pandemic.
