I'm a believer in a buyer beware frame of mind for investments, but will some random worker understand what he is buying and the risks. I doubt it.

They'll likely get a list of investments available with simple prior performance data and select the one with the higher recent performance. Way down the page will be the fine print standard footnote that says "prior performance does not indicate future performance," so the offering company's butt is covered.
