Verizon to cut 165 jobs in Washington state amid companywide layoffs [View all]

Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ) is laying off 165 employees in Washington as part of the largest layoff in the telecommunications giant’s history.

Affected workers include engineers, analysts and retail employees, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filed with the state Monday.

The layoffs, which will begin Jan. 23, put Verizon among the latest employers to cut jobs in Washington this year. In August, rival T-Mobile laid off 121 employees in Bellevue.

“Verizon is consolidating and restructuring its operations to maximize the utilization of company facilities and resources,” Eboni Gregoire, director of human resource operations at Verizon, wrote in the filing.
