to tell than if he had not been intoxicated. A basic rule of thumb for head trauma is that you cannot get a reliable neurological evaluation until the person is sober. For example, is the slurred speech or confusion from the booze or from the injury?

If he was obviously drunk to start with and then hit his head/face hard enough to get cut up, the cuts are possibly incidental at that point compared to a potential disaster brewing inside his skull (having not listened to the call or read the transcript I don't know what her actual concern was).
