Oregon GOP: Governor Brown recall on track to meet signature deadline [View all]

An effort to recall Gov. Kate Brown by the Oregon Republican Party is on track to collect enough signatures to potentially place the Democratic governor on the ballot in November, according to the state GOP's spokesman.

Sparked by controversial legislation proposed during the 2019 Oregon legislative session, spokesman Kevin Hoar said the recall has gotten off to an unusually fast start gathering signatures.

Opponents of the governor and the Democratic supermajority in the Legislature said lawmakers over-reached on a number of fronts this year with disregard for voters. Chief among them were a greenhouse gas emissions cap-and-trade bill, a massive education tax package and a bill that would allow undocumented immigrants to get drivers licenses.

"They didn't want to give the people a vote, so we're giving people a vote," Hoar said. "This is a bigger issue than just one bill."
