Oklahoma farmers react to USAID funding freeze [View all]

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — A new bill proposed by Republicans is trying to restore a USAID program.

Recent cuts to USAID, the agency that purchases and distributes U.S. commodities to food-insecure nations, have created uncertainty for those who rely on their crops.

Oklahoma farmers have played a key role in feeding people around the world and the recent freeze concerned them, at first, but with the new bill being introduced, they’re hopeful.

“I think short term we were concerned that it would have an impact, but I think the administration overall is just looking at transparency with all programs,” said Mike Schulte, the executive director of Oklahoma Wheat Commission.
