Vivek tries to walk back comments about closing down some of Ohio's universities [View all]

And Youngstowners aren’t having it.

Republican Vivek Ramaswamy is hoping to consolidate Ohio's public universities if elected governor this November.

“We have too many of them,” Ramaswamy said in a video posted to Threads on March 13. “They need to be consolidated. And when you consolidate them, they can actually be centers of excellence who are actually the best in their respective domains, instead of trying to create replicas and clones of one another throughout the state.”

It isn’t yet clear what that will mean for Youngstown State University, despite a slew of social media posts and even published articles claiming the school would be shut down under a Ramaswamy administration.
