You're planning to vote by mail in NC. Now what? [View all]

Mail distribution of absentee ballots remains on hold in North Carolina after the state Supreme Court in a 4-3 ruling late Monday granted Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s wish to have his name removed.

The first wave of absentee ballots was set to go out last Friday, before Kennedy’s lawsuit and appeal froze the action.

Counties will still mail absentee ballots for this election, but the printing and mailing schedule is thrown off. The deadline for requesting an absentee ballot is Oct. 29.

Ballots are expected to go out in the next couple of weeks, but the exact date is uncertain, according to a state Board of Elections email. Local elections offices won’t begin sending out absentee ballots until all 100 counties are ready to go.
