learning, two days before our last day, I received my schedule for next year....American 1 American 2 and Sociology....American History easy, enjoyable, and fun to teach at the high school level. Sociology is a whole new ball game. I had one Soc class in college 40 years ago and have no clue about this subject. I was expecting 2-3classes of American and maybe a Geography class...No such luck. I go to our District's SS link to look at the standards and resources available to start planning for the fall.....Soc standards are posted glanced at them ....then tried opening the resoure link...it's dead....no resources available....great, called our District Coach for help, guess we have to update a few links.....YES YOU DO....great, just what I want to do, nobody at my high school has taught Soc in over 10 years. District Coach gave me two teachers from other District High Schools to contact for help with Soc....Last summer we spent 3 weeks learning and implementing Canvas Learning Platform....horrible experience that I somehow survived. Now I get to spend much of this summer fixing/improving my Canvas stuff for American 1 & 2 and trying to learn something about Sociology and create a new course in Canvas.....plus we are adding IB to many faculty positions and their requirements /documentation/resources.....and IB Lesson Plans different from regular lesson plans....and people wonder why teachers are quitting right and left.....
