Police: Gene Hackman slaps a homeless man in NM

<snip>

"This male got up in his face, (and) assaulted (Hackman)," Dobyns said. "Mr. Hackman did slap the homeless male across the face."

Police decided Hackman's slap was in self-defense.

"This homeless male put him in fear for his life and his wife's life," Dobyns said.

The man who was involved in the incident with Hackman has a long, violent history. Court records show he's pleaded guilty in the past to aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and battery on a peace officer.

Also, the homeless man looked like Christopher Reeve.
